Australia
The trial funded by Australian Association of Asthma Foundations was conducted in December 1994-January 1995 through the Mater Hospital (Brisbane). The initial results were released at the conference for Thoracic physicians Society in Hobart in March 1995.

Control Group
After 6 weeks people from the group that had been taught Buteyko technique reduced the intake of bronchodilators (reliever medication) by 90% and (preventative) steroid medication by 30% at 12 weeks along with improvement in their condition. In contrast, ones from control group who used traditional treatment were able to reduce medication intake by less than 5%.
A year later, the patients from the control group were also trained in Buteyko method and showed similar reduction in bronchodilators intake.
